2019 Toyota 86 TRD Special Edition Launches in North America
“If USDA Certified Organic had a sportscar category, the 2019 86 TRD Special Edition would be its benchmark.” That’s how Toyota describes this new special edition of the popular sports car.
The two-door 86 has always represented the Toyota family’s speed entry. Its body is athletically defined and lightweight, and the powertrain has been thoughtfully engineered for responsiveness and stability. It descends from a lineage of lightning, borrowing much if its design philosophy from iconic Toyota 2000 GT and the legendary Toyota Corolla GT-S that sold in the US in the mid-1980s. Today's 86 incorporates modern innovations to continue its patronage of performance.
The 2019 Toyota 86 TRD Special Edition will offer the highest performing 86 powertrain on the continent. That’s because this rarity will feature technological advantages, such as SACHS dampers and Brembo brakes, providing unprecedented command of the road at high speeds. Drivers will also appreciate feeling one with the road while handling the performance-focused Michelin Pilot Sport 4 summer tires with the small-diameter steering wheel. The 2.0-liter horizontally-opposed aluminum Boxer engine can be paired with a six-speed manual transmission for the auto-purists, or it can be paired with a six-speed Electronically Controlled automatic with intelligence (ECT-i), offering super-fast shifts, steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters, Sport Mode, and Dynamic Rev Management technology, which “blips” the throttle on downshifts.
Inside, the 2+2 cabin will feature racing inspired décor with modern technological amenities. Front passengers will enjoy bucket seats with Granlux suede-like coverings, complete with red seatbelts and contrast stitching throughout. Plus, everyone will appreciate dual-zone climate control and top-of-the-line Display Audio infotainment system with 7-inch LCD touch screen, blasting immaculate sound from the eight-speaker Pioneer audio system. That sound system will offer modern connectivity via Bluetooth®, AUX, USB, HD Radio, and multiple streaming apps. The 2019 Toyota 86 also comes standard with the STAR Safety System, featuring Anti-lock Brakes, Electronic Brake Force Distribution, Traction Control, Brake Assist, Vehicle Stability Control, and Smart Stop Technology.
Unfortunately, the 2019 Toyota 86 TRD Special Edition will be limited to just 1,418 units, so getting your hands on one may be tough.
