Fuel-Saving Features from Toyota

With fuel prices projected to remain high through Memorial Day, everyone has become more attuned to their vehicle’s fuel economy. Toyota has engineered the models in its lineup to offer outstanding fuel-saving features. From hybrid powertrains to aerodynamic designs, Toyota keeps the environment—and your wallet—in mind.

Variable Valve Timing

Toyota’s variable valve timing technology, VVT-i, is used in many engine options to increase performance as well as fuel economy and efficiency. It works by altering the timing of the valves by shifting the phase angle of the camshaft. If that sounds like a bunch of jargon you don’t really care about, just know that VVT-i equals better efficiency. This technology is used throughout the Toyota lineup on most models.

Turbo Powertrains

Much like how variable valve timing can improve efficiency, so can turbochargers. The application of turbochargers may have started with the desire for faster vehicles, but it has an extra benefit. By using a turbocharger, Toyota can use a smaller engine with less horsepower without creating a vehicle that feels sluggish. Small turbos provide the power you need to merge onto highways or pass another car but don’t drink up fuel when you’re driving normally. A great example is the Supra equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine. With 255 horsepower, you might expect this car to be expensive at the pump but the premium sports car still achieves 32 mpg on the highway.*

Hybrid & Electric Performance

Hybrid models are an outstanding way to employ the technology of electric models with more ease of use and flexibility. Toyota offers many of its most popular models as hybrids like the Camry, Highlander, Prius, RAV4, Venza, and Avalon. We're also highly anticipating the release of Toyota's first fully-electric model, the bZ4X. Toyota aims for a 250-mile range and has released images of this crossover's stunning design.

We can help you configure a vehicle that meets your efficiency needs and your lifestyle. With Toyota’s innovative technology, their line-up has so much to offer.
