The Road Ahead: What to Expect from Toyota in 2019

As a leader in innovation, technology, and performance, we expect big things from Toyota in 2019. From impressive innovations in fuel efficiency and engine dynamics to wider technology offerings,Toyota is already poised to outdo itself this year. Here are a few of the biggest changes and coming in 2019.

Lineup Changes

2019 Prius

Efficiency just got a little more capable, thanks to the available AWD-e system on the 2019 Toyota Prius. Rather than traditional mechanical all-wheel-drive, the Prius features a rear motor that powers the rear wheels from 0 to 6 mph for confident starts, then up to 43 mph when the system detects that it’s needed. The result is a fuel-efficient car that inspires confident and safe driving in a wider variety of weather and road conditions. If you’re a fan of the front-wheel-drive configuration, this drivetrain is still standard, and it's as fuel-friendly as ever. New interior and exterior designs accompany the new drivetrain option. Also, new and updated technology features like additional USB ports and a larger Qi wireless charging tray enhance the interior experience for passengers.

2019 RAV4

This year, Toyota has chosen to celebrate the venerable RAV4 with an all-new redesign. For its fifth generation, the RAV4 is available with a gas or hybrid powertrain and standard front-wheel or all-wheel drive. Aesthetically, the new RAV4 embraces an athletic appearance that exudes both brawn and sport. This design echoes what lies beneath the chiseled panels of this crossover. Both efficient and capable, the 2019 RAV4 is a practical answer to almost any driver’s needs. Advanced safety technology, off-roading assistance features, and infotainment amenities mean the RAV4 is ready to take you anywhere you can imagine, comfortably.

2019 86

Toyota’s attainable sports car just got a little bit sportier, thanks to the new TRD Special Edition, which adds upgraded brakes, tires, suspension, aerodynamics, and exhaust. The new trim will be exclusively in Raven, a stunning black, and will feature trim-exclusive wheels. With the continued implementation of the 2.0-liter Boxer engine, the 2019 Toyota 86 produces 205 horsepower and 156 pound-feet of torque, when equipped with the six-speed manual. The automaker didn’t skimp on safety or entertainment on this year’s coupe, offering loads of features to keep you safe and satisfied.

2019 Tundra

Building on the rock-solid foundation of last year’s Tundra, Toyota is offering more features and packages to allow drivers to fine-tune this powerful pickup truck to fit their unique needs. The new SX package adds new color accents, unique styling, 18-inch black allow wheels, and no exterior badging. The TRD Pro trim gets an update for 2019, with new Fox shocks, giving the wheels more travel so that it can tackle even larger obstacles. Rigid Industries LED fog lights, a new front grill, a new hood scoop, and new 18-inch forged-aluminum wheels improve both the form and functions of the 2019 Tundra. New standards in safety technology, multimedia, and handling features help the Tundra feel less like a hulking beast, and more like a refined warrior.

The New Supra

Though it is technically a 2020 year model, Toyota will start delivering the long-awaited revival of the legendary Supra in 2019, after first debuting it at the 2019 North American International Auto Show. The first Supra to be produced in 20 years will be auctioned in Scottsdale, Arizona in January. The proceeds of the sale benefit the American Heart Association and the Bob Woodruff Foundation. Though Toyota has yet to officially release detailed information about the new Supra, this sports car is sure to pay homage to its predecessors.

On the Track

With the revival of the Toyota Supra, it only makes sense for it to make a track appearance. The legend will join the NASCAR Xfinity Series for the 2019 race season. It will debut in the series at Daytona in February. The Toyota Racing Development and Calty Design Research teams worked with Toyota to draw on prior experience in NASCAR to design a Supra that could bring home some big wins for the automaker in years to come.

The Camry will still be present in the NASCAR races, though. A new partnership with Leavine Family Racing and driver Mat DiBenedetto for the 2019 race season means that Toyota will be well represented in the 2019 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series. TRD will be on hand to build engines, as well as provide support throughout the season. The season starts in February at Daytona.

…And This is Just the Beginning

Toyota is kicking off the new year with a bang, and this is just the beginning.
